FOUR NOCTURNES
Dir. John Akomfrah Prod. Smoking Dogs Films 2019 50 min. UK
Premiered at the Ghanaian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Art Biennale, Four Nocturnes explores the complex, intertwined relationship between humanity's destruction of the natural world and our destruction of ourselves.
Using Africa's dwindling elephant population as its narrative backbone, Four Nocturnes is a series of impressionistic meditations on fleeting time(s), migration, mortality, loss, fragmented identity and memory through poetic visuals that survey the landscape of African cultural heritage.
